Meet Alvin! Alvin is a Regional Talent Acquisition Advisor for APAC at Guidepoint. Alvin graduated from Hong Kong University where he studied Biotechnology and Music.

Why did you pursue a career in recruiting?

Alvin: I have always been interested in recruiting ever since I was a college student. Although I studied science in university, I have always been drawn to recruitment and helped out with student organizations recruiting new members. I landed my first job at another ENS company and assisted in their recruitment function. I have only been doing recruiting ever since.

What’s your favorite aspect of the recruiting process?

Alvin: The human interaction part. I like that you get to talk to candidates from all walks of life and backgrounds. You get to know more about their stories and how they built their career.

What’s something that typically stands out to you when you’re screening a candidate?

Alvin: People that have some basic understanding of Guidepoint always leave a good first impression. The nature of our service is quite a niche and not everyone knows about us or what we do. It’s always nice to speak with candidates who have some basic understanding of what we do and ask questions about us.

Why did you apply to Guidepoint?

Alvin: I like the nature of what we do. The potential of the information service industry is profound, particularly after COVID. It’s exciting to be a part of a fast-growing industry.

How would you describe Guidepoint company culture?

Alvin: It’s extremely international. My team is all around APAC and I constantly have chances to interact with members from all over the globe.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking about applying to Guidepoint?

Alvin: Always do research on our business. It’s important for our candidates to have some basic idea of Guidepoint to ensure a fruitful discussion with us.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

Alvin: I used to play in a band and did street performing when I was in uni – I guess that trained my courage to speak/perform in front of strangers!
